Northfield Advisory Group works with business owners and leadership teams facing complex challenges that cross traditional functional boundaries.
With experience spanning corporate strategy, finance and accounting, organizational structure, operations, and technology, Northfield brings an independent perspective to understanding where a business has been, where it stands today, and where its owners want to take it.

Businesses where owners remain deeply involved in day-to-day decisions and need experienced perspective, additional executive capacity or support turning priorities into action.
Organizations whose growth has begun to outpace existing financial processes, systems, organizational structure or management capacity.
Companies navigating acquisitions, integrations, succession, leadership changes, restructuring or other periods of significant organizational change.
Transportation, logistics, industrial, construction and other businesses where capital allocation, asset utilization and operational performance directly drive financial results.
Professional, technical and field-service organizations looking to strengthen financial visibility, operating discipline, accountability and the infrastructure needed to scale.
Organizations confronting an important issue that doesn't fit neatly within finance, operations, strategy or corporate services and may not require another full-time executive to solve.
Strengthen forecasting, reporting, cash-flow management and profitability analysis to give ownership a clearer understanding of business performance and the information needed to make better decisions.
Bring financial and strategic discipline to significant capital decisions, including equipment, facilities, technology, expansion and other investments where the long-term implications matter.
Support owners and management teams as they evaluate an acquisition, prepare for a potential sale, assess financial and operational implications, and work through transaction planning and execution.
Assess organizational structure, processes, accountability and management capacity when growth or changing circumstances have outpaced the way the business currently operates.
Provide experienced financial, strategic or operational leadership during periods of transition, major initiatives or increased workload, without necessarily adding another permanent executive.
Not every problem fits neatly into a traditional category. Northfield can independently assess the situation, bring together the right people and information, develop practical options, and help management move toward a solution.
We take the time to understand how the business actually works. Spending time on site when appropriate, meeting with owners and key team members, and reviewing the financial, operational and organizational picture.
We work alongside ownership and management to identify the underlying issue or opportunity, challenge assumptions, and evaluate practical options based on the realities of the business.
Our involvement does not have to end with a recommendation. When appropriate, Northfield remains engaged through implementation, working with the team to execute decisions and measure progress.

Northfield is currently providing advisory support to Great River Capital, a Northeast-focused real estate investment firm. Our work brings an independent operating and financial perspective to business strategy, investment evaluation and opportunities for long-term growth.

Northfield is working alongside the founders of Preferred Services, an early-stage technology-enabled business focused on improving utilization in the professional trades.
Derek brings more than two decades of executive experience across corporate strategy, finance, operations, M&A, and enterprise management within complex, asset-intensive international businesses.
Over the course of his career, Derek has held senior executive roles including Chief Financial Officer and President, as well as global leadership responsibility for corporate strategy. His responsibilities have spanned corporate finance and treasury, operations, technology, organizational development, human resources, risk, and corporate services.
Derek has also played a leadership role in major transactions and periods of organizational change, including acquisitions, business integration, corporate restructuring, capital investment, and asset financing. His experience includes working across multiple international markets with executive leadership, boards, financial institutions, and other stakeholders.
His approach to advisory work reflects that experience: understand how the business actually operates, ask the difficult questions, bring the right people and information together, and turn strategy into practical action.
Derek’s professional foundation combines business education with hands-on operational experience. He completed executive education at Columbia Business School and earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Connecticut. He also holds both Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees from the State University New York Maritime College. Earlier in his career, Derek earned a U.S. Coast Guard Third Mate, Unlimited Tonnage license, reflecting the operational maritime foundation that preceded his progression into finance, strategy, and executive leadership.

Complex business challenges rarely fit neatly into one department.
